Topic
The game is going to fall into the so-called boomer shooter genre (with a twist). The player will control a cowboy from the Wild west, who has been abducted by aliens. The goal is to shoot ‘em all and escape. The twist is going to be that old-timey guns are quite difficult to reload, thus the player will have to manually reload the gun within the UI of the game.
Visual
The game is going to be quite simple, imagine a game like HROT or ULTRAKILL, but less polished, I would call the style neo-PS2 graphics (read rectangular corridors, maybe with some textures). I would like to animate the view model, but I would like reserve the right to make the enemies very simple (the enemies could be just some models floating at you, but hopefully I’ll produce something more).
Main Game Loop
Main Menu -> Story Mode or Level Select
Story Mode -> Fade to first level
Level Select -> Selection from levels (just one real one and simple levels for padding)
Level (gameplay) -> next Level or Menu (if from level select) or Credits (if story mode end)
The gameplay itself will be very similiar to most FPSs. The enemies will patrol or stand still, until they spot the player, then pursue them or shoot them. The player will move with the standard FPS control scheme on PC or use the joystick + touch on mobile. The gimmick with reloading will be an UI popup (see picture). There are going to be some pickups on the floor (varying ammo types).
Requirements
- R1 – It’s will be for PC, WebGL (if I don’t make it too complicated) and Android
- R2 – Will do.
- R3 – Will do.
- R4 – Will do. I could add some environment with patroling enemies as a menu background.
- R5 – There’s not much space to do tweening or cinemachine, I could use the UI toolkit, but would like to use some other plugin, will ask for ideas.
- R6 – I am gonna try to simplify level editing, I could add an editor option to set a patrol path for an enemy, also visualizing view cones could be useful.
- R7 – Will do.
- R8 – Will do.
- C5 – A significant part of the game is going to about creating a reasonable enemy AI.
- A5 – It will be an FPS.
- A1 – I would like to implement full save/loading (e.g. like in Half-Life.)
